Arbor was founded by Joan E. Moore, attorney, nationally recognized speaker and author and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Ms. Moore received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, is a member of the Ohio Bar and has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources. In addition, as a long-term business owner Ms. Moore brings unique insight into the challenges involved in managing human resources issues from a business perspective.
The consultants of Arbor are experienced human resources professionals with complementary skills in project management, organization analysis, employee relations, management development, program evaluation and regulatory and legal compliance.
Following are brief biographies of Arbor's key consultants:
Joan E. Moore, J.D., SPHR
Joan E. Moore is the founder and President of The Arbor Consulting Group, Inc. Ms. Moore's expertise, in addition to Arbor management, is in organization reviews, employee relations, project management, and EEO/affirmative action planning and regulatory compliance. Client engagements have ranged from writing an Affirmative Action Plan for a major health care provider, to working with a rapidly expanding organization to diagnose difficulties arising from recent mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Moore also has served as a senior human resources advisor to smaller organizations on issues arising from rapid growth, employee relations problems or regulatory compliance.
Ms. Moore also is a frequent lecturer and seminar leader on human resources trends, compliance issues, such as sexual harassment, ADA, affirmative action and employee relations issues, such as employee climate assessments, employee opinion surveys, performance coaching and counseling and management development. She was a speaker at the SHRM 54th Annual Conference in Philadelphia on the topic of "Who Are You Going To Call: Building Your HR Network."
Ms. Moore also was recognized by Crain's Detroit Business as one of its Most Influential Women.
Ms. Moore has memberships in the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit (HRA), American Bar Association and the Greater Ann Arbor Area SHRM (GAASHRM). She also is a Past President of the Board for HRA and serves on the Advisory Board. She facilitates several human resources roundtables in the Greater Detroit area and is founder of the Arbor Awards for Excellence, recognizing innovative human resource practices in Michigan. She is a member of the SHRM National Committees Task Force and the SHRM National Expert Panel on Organization Development. She is a past member of the SHRM National Human Resource Development Committee and the National SHRM Area III Board. Ms. Moore received the 1998 Women's Economic Club Tribute Award for Organization Vision and Culture. This award recognized Arbor as an organization with leading edge, innovative practices. In addition, Ms. Moore is a recipient of the Pinnacle Award Pin presented by the National Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) to the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit. The Pinnacle Award honors the highest achievements in chapter development and contributions to the advancements of effective human resource management. She also was a member of the Leadership Detroit VII program and is past President of the Alumni Association.
Ms. Moore's publications include a SHRM white paper entitled "To Retain Key Employees - Develop the Boss," an article entitled "Performance Counseling Under the ADA" which appeared in the Reasonable Accommodation Journal, published by Warren, Gorham and Lamont, "Are The Keys to Retention Walking Out Your Door?" which appeared in Human Resource Professional, published by LRP publications and "The Role of HR in Mergers and Acquisitions" published in Michigan Forward Magazine by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Ms. Moore is often contacted by the media as a resource for newspaper and magazine articles. She has been quoted in Crain's Detroit Business, Black Enterprise Magazine, The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, The Observer & Eccentric, HR Reporter, CFO Magazine, Benefits and Business and HR Monthly, a publication of the Australian Human Resource Institute.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in multi-disciplinary social science from Michigan State University and doctor of jurisprudence from the School of Law at Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the Ohio Bar and is certified by the Society for Human Resources Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
Terri L. Luter, SPHR
Terri L. Luter is Vice President of The Arbor Consulting Group, Inc. (Arbor), with expertise in project management, EEO and regulatory compliance, Affirmative Action Plan preparation, OFCCP audit support, organization reviews, employee relations assessments, and human resources information systems. In addition, Ms. Luter oversees Arbor business operations, including systems and finance.
Ms. Luter has served as project manager and consultant on a variety of affirmative action projects ranging from the preparation of Affirmative Action Plans for a large Fortune 500 company with 45 establishments throughout the United States, to preparing Affirmative Action Plans for small organizations of less than 100 employees. In addition, Ms. Luter works in partnership with clients to prepare for OFCCP audits and consults onsite during the actual audits. She has successfully guided many companies through audits which have resulted in Letters of Compliance. Ms. Luter also conducts training on, and acts as a resource to, a variety of clients on affirmative action and EEO issues.
Other major client engagements have included: conducting an organization assessment to identify inefficiencies and difficulties within a rapidly expanding organization that had recently acquired several new subsidiaries; measuring employee satisfaction and reporting findings and recommendations to the management of a large insurance organization experiencing rapid change; designing and preparing a policy and procedures manuals for a high-tech manufacturing firm; and conducting a review and assessment of the future needs of the Human Resources function of a major university during a period of reorganization, merger and relocation.
Ms. Luter is certified by the Society for Human Resources Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). She holds membership in the Women's Economic Club. She also is past president of the Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Human Resources Systems Professionals.
Margaret (Mim) Munzel, SPHR
Mim Munzel is a consultant with The Arbor Consulting Group, Inc., with a broad skill base in organization assessment and change management, employee relations, recruitment and selection, training and development, retention and turnover and career transition assistance.
Client projects have included: exit interview surveys for two major healthcare organizations; an employee skills assessment for a large manufacturer; a human resources audit of a recently acquired manufacturer; a cultural assessment for two merging R&D organizations; an organization diagnostic review for an international, non-profit company undergoing rapid and large-scale changes; the design and implementation of a structured interview and selection process for a large information systems organization; the development of employee relations assessments, including surveys, interviews and subsequent implementation plans for clients in insurance, transportation and other industries; the assessment of a human resources department as part of an overall reengineering program; the development of a recruiting and selection system, including management training, for a technology-related organization; and the management and delivery of executive and group outplacement programs.
Ms. Munzel also has experience working with international manufacturers including organization assessments and employee relations projects for Japanese-American companies, and an organization and diagnostic review for a European-based conglomerate.
Ms. Munzel has spoken before professional groups on various human resources issues such as Retention During Organization Change; Organizational Design and Strategic Staffing; Recruiting On The Internet, How To Source Candidates Beyond The Media; and Exit Interviews: Insight to Retention and Organizational Improvement. Maggie J. Sullivan
Maggie Sullivan is a consultant with The Arbor Consulting Group, Inc., with broad knowledge and skills in recruitment and selection, affirmative action, employee relations, policy development, training and career development. Her human resources management experience has been with companies in the service industry, working in retail, hospitality, and property management.
Client projects include preparation of affirmative action plans and assisting clients in preparing for OFCCP compliance audits. Other client work includes the audit and assessment of the human resources functions of a company after a merger/acquisition; the design and implementation of an employee handbook; the investigation of a sexual harassment claim; and the design and implementation of an interview and selection process. Ms. Sullivan also provides consulting to clients on various employee relations and compliance issues.
Ms. Sullivan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in Public Policy and Administration, concentrating in Personnel Management and Labor Relations.
